South St. Paul Educational Foundation is Seeking a new Executive Director
The South Saint Paul Educational Foundation (SSPEF) has begun the search for a new executive director based on the impending retirement of Cari Vujovich. Vujovich will retire in June 2022 after leading the Foundation for the past 17 years.
“Cari has presided over a period of enormous growth for the Foundation,” said SSPEF Board President Phillip Voight. During her tenure, nearly five million dollars in scholarships have been awarded to 2,165 South St. Paul students, and the Foundation’s assets have grown from three million dollars to more than ten million. “We are looking for a leader with a passionate commitment to the Foundation’s mission,” Voight continued, “management and administrative capabilities, as well as fundraising and development skills.”
Programs such as Mr. Otto’s Way were established to provide students with winter weather gear such as coats, hats, and boots. In addition to providing scholarship support and program funding, the Foundation has established partnerships with a wide variety of organizations. “We teamed up with the South Saint Paul Garden Club,” Vujovich noted, “to send every one of our kindergarten students to the Dodge Nature Center. The South St. Paul Youth Hockey Association worked with the Foundation to create an endowment to cover the cost of ice-time and fees for players.
The Foundation has paid all fees associated with the school district’s K-12 International Baccalaureate program and has been instrumental in the creation of scholarships with a vocational focus, such as plumbing and diesel mechanic training.
The South St. Paul Educational Foundation was established in 1984 to raise funds for those projects and activities that go beyond the traditional classroom. Over the years, the Foundation has also provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide educational and curricular materials, and underwrite research, training, and program development activities. Vujovich sees a bright future ahead for the Foundation. “Whatever the need,” she observed, “the Foundation will be there to help make the South St. Paul Public Schools successful.”
