Like cafeterias and restaurants across the country, South St. Paul Schools is experiencing many challenges receiving the products we have ordered. This is due to manufacturer shortages and delivery delays. These shortages and delays are affecting raw ingredients, menu items, and serving supplies such as meal trays. Menus will be updated online as quickly as possible when changes need to happen. However last minute changes and product substitutions may occur without notice due to shortages and the amount of students eating meals that day.
Milk Carton Shortage
One current shortage is milk cartons. The school district will be receiving about half of the milk normally received from our vendor. SSPPS is allocating the milk we receive to the elementary schools, which should allow them to operate as normal with breakfast and lunch, at this time. The availability of chocolate milk may change weekly, but white milk should remain constant.
The change will happen at the secondary level. For secondary students, white milk will be available at breakfast when cereal is served, usually 1-2 days per week. Juice will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, which follows the regular breakfast rotation. On days when milk is not available students will be offered a small bottle of water at breakfast. For lunch, students will be offered a small bottle of water with their meal.
We are unsure of how long these changes will last. The district is handling the shortage on a week by week basis. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we do our best to navigate the challenges and meet the nutritional needs of all students.
