South St. Paul Public School District is the recipient of a MnDOT Demonstration Project.

The district will be working with MnDOT, ALTA planning, and community partners to evaluate infrastructure improvements before potentially investing in permanent changes. What is a Demonstration Project? Learn more here. The planning stages of the project are underway - with installation Spring of 2022!

The Safe Routes to School Team (SRTS) team is planning a workshop. At the workshop the team will review and collaborate with key partners and community members to hear feedback/ideas and develop the ideal project for our community.

The application for this demonstration project highlights areas near Kaposia Elementary School:

  • Intersections of concern — 7th/Dale, 5th/Dale, 7th/Spruce and 5th/Spruce
  • High traffic speeds
  • Pedestrian safety and limited infrastructure (sidewalks, bump outs, stop signs, stop lights, etc)
  • Open to community input on how to best utilize this project to support SRTS efforts in SSP

The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. and open to all community members who are interested in learning more and providing feedback. The more engagement the better to develop the best project for our SSP community!
