School Board Appoints Amy Wardell to Fill Vacant Seat

Following the resignation of board member Ryan Duffy earlier this spring, the School Board invited community members to apply for a temporary appointment to the vacant seat.

At its June 22 meeting, the Board appointed Amy Wardell to serve as the interim board member. Wardell will begin her service in July 2026 and will hold the position until the November 2026 General Election. The seat will then be decided by voters in November. The candidate elected to the position will take office immediately after the election and serve the remainder of Duffy’s term, which runs through January 2029.

Amy has been a South St. Paul resident for more than 20 years and brings extensive experience in public education to the role. A parent of a South St. Paul High School student, she has been actively involved in the district through the Kaposia PTA, district listening sessions, and community activities. Professionally, Amy has served as a teacher, International Baccalaureate coordinator, AVID district director, and currently as a districtwide Health and Physical Education coordinator. She also holds a K–12 principal license and said she is committed to supporting South St. Paul Public Schools through a focus on trust, balance, compassion, and student success.

The Board appreciates the interest shown by community members who applied and looks forward to Wardell’s contributions as she joins the team in service to the district and its students.
