TriDistrict Students Get Hands-On Experience at Boston Scientific
Healthcare and Medicine Careers Field Trip to Boston Scientific
Students in the Healthcare career pathway through the TriDistrict Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) Program got hands-on experience at Boston Scientific in Arden Hills. The Healthcare Careers and Medicine program allows students to explore the different areas of employment in the healthcare field. Recently, they took a trip to Boston Scientific where they learned about a field not typically thought of when considering a healthcare career, the manufacturing of medical devices.
Boston Scientific is an International Company specializing in innovative medical solutions. At the Arden Hills facility, students learned about the manufacturing and placement of devices for irregular heart rhythms and heart failure. The students had the chance to practice in the same classrooms doctors and fellows go to train on Boston Scientific devices. They had the opportunity to practice placing a catheter in a heart valve and implant a pacemaker. They also learned more about the heart and why someone may need one of these life-saving devices using 3D technology. At the end of the day, the students had a question and answer session with Boston Scientific employees representing the different departments at the Arden Hills Facility.
