SSPPS Nurse Attends Conference on Dakota County Drug Crisis
SSPPS Nurse, Shawnee Krueger, attended a press conference from Senator Amy Klobuchar and Representative Angie Craig to talk about the fentanyl crisis facing the United States, Minnesota, and Dakota County. At the conference in Inver Grove Heights, they were joined by Dakota County Sheriff Joe Leko, to present information on the current rise in fentanyl drugs, drug overdoses, and the impact they have on families, communities, and schools. Some Dakota County School Nurses were invited to attend the conference. Shawnee was able to meet with Senator Klobuchar and Rep Craig and voice her concern of the impact fentanyl has on our schools and community. Both Senator Klobuchar and Rep Craig voiced their support with new legislation proposed at both the federal and state levels allowing not only school nurses but trained school personnel to be able to administer the opioid antagonist Narcan (naloxone) to individuals suffering from a drug overdose. Shawnee says she is very interested in helping SSPPS comply with future Narcan/naloxone school policies.
