City of South St. Paul Supports SSPPS Operational Levy
At the October 10, 2022 SSPPS school board meeting, South St. Paul Mayor, James P. Francis presented the city's resolution of support for the upcoming operational levy.
The resolution states:
Resolution No. 2022-135 Supporting the South St. Paul Special School District #6 Ballot Referendum
WHEREAS, the City of South St. Paul ("City") believes that a health school district is essential to the vitality of a Community; and
WHEREAS, the City of South St. Paul and South St. Paul Special School District #6 enriches the lives of our community's young people and instills within them knowledge and values that help to shape their lives as engaged, thoughtful members of our Community and our World; and
WHEREAS, the City believes that strong schools nurture and sustain a high quality of life and basic community values that will help the City to retain and attract residents, businesses, and jobs; and
WHEREAS, the District's current operating levy produces per-student voter-approved revenues that are significantly less than the average within Dakota County and the Minneapolis St. Paul Metropolitan Area; and
WHEREAS, a failure to secure increased operating levy dollars will likely necessitate a reduction in service within the District; and
WHEREAS, the City believes that "voting yes" to Questions #1 and #2 on the ballot referendum for the November 8, 2022 general election by registered voters in South St. Paul will support the stability of our City and enhance the quality of life in South St. Paul through essential investment in students, educators, and programming in our City, now and into the future.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the South St. Paul City Council that the City Council is in full support of the proposed increase to the voter approved operating levy as proposed in School District Questions #1 & #2 as found on the State General Election Ballot on November 8, 2022.
