Working Together to Keep Our Schools Safe
We are aware of concerns being shared in our community regarding possible immigration enforcement activity and want to provide clarity and reassurance for our families and staff.
At this time, there are no confirmed reports of immigration officials at any South St. Paul Public Schools or bus stops. We understand that hearing information like this can be unsettling, and we want to reassure our community that schools remain safe, welcoming places for learning.
South St. Paul Public Schools is committed to maintaining safe, supportive learning environments for all students and staff. We have established safety protocols in place at our school buildings and for student transportation, and our staff are trained on procedures designed to maintain calm, secure school operations.
Access to our school buildings is controlled, and school leaders and office staff are trained on response protocols for any outside requests to access school property. We have worked closely with our transportation partner, Safe Way Bus Company, to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place related to bus stops.
As part of our ongoing safety planning, we remain in close contact with the South St. Paul Police Department. The South St. Paul Police Department is not affiliated with, nor does it act on behalf of, immigration enforcement agencies. Their role continues to focus on supporting the safety of our schools and community.
Families always have the right to make decisions they feel are best for their children. If a family chooses to keep their child home due to concerns, we encourage them to contact their school so we can partner to support ongoing academic learning and connection.
We are grateful for our families and staff who work together each day to ensure our schools remain places of learning, care, and belonging. Families who have questions or need additional support are encouraged to contact their building principal. We value our strong partnership with families in supporting students.
