Update: Important School Closure and Moving to E-Learning
SSPPS Families,
Thank you for your patience and support as we worked through today’s situation.
This morning, we received information just before the start of the school day that required immediate attention. We know the timeline was very tight, and we appreciate your flexibility as we quickly transitioned to e-learning while working closely with the South St. Paul Police Department to ensure we were sharing accurate and verified information.
We would like to share an update following that coordination. Law enforcement has confirmed that the situation has been addressed and the individual involved is in custody. Based on this information, all schools and district programming will remain closed today and resume as normal tomorrow, Thursday, March 19.
Here is the official press release from the South St. Paul Police Department, which provides additional details.
We understand that situations like this can be concerning. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We are grateful for our strong partnership with the South St. Paul Police Department and for their prompt response.
Our district continuously reviews and strengthens safety and security practices, including close collaboration with law enforcement, building-level procedures, and systems designed to respond quickly to concerns.
If your student is in need of additional support, please reach out to your school and they will connect your student with appropriate resources.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership. We look forward to welcoming students and staff back tomorrow.
This message was sent to families around 7:00 am Wednesday:
Out of an abundance of caution, all schools will be closed today and we will transition to an e-learning day due to a safety concern.
We understand this may be unexpected, and we appreciate your flexibility. Our district has been working closely with the local police department, and we are taking this step to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community.
At this time, we do not have additional details to share. We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
Please watch for further communication from the district regarding next steps and any additional guidance for e-learning.
