Excessive Cold Emergency Closing

Excessive Cold Emergency Closing

SSPPS Families,

As we head into the end of the week, forecasts are showing dangerously cold temperatures headed our way. School will be in session on Thursday, January 22, 2026, however, with extreme cold arriving later that afternoon and continuing into the weekend,South St. Paul Public Schools will be closed on Friday, January 23, 2026.

Because Friday, January 23, 2026 will be Emergency Closing Day #1 for the 2025-26 school year, students will not report to school, and no e-learning plans will be implemented. If additional emergency closings are needed due to weather during the 2025-26 school year, SSPPS will provide more information and direction about e-learning plans.

The following programs and activities are canceled for Friday, January 23, 2026:

  • Kids’ Choice
  • Early Learning classes (ECFE, ECSE) and community preschool classes
  • Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK)
  • Adult Basic Education (ABE)
  • Central Square Community Center programming
  • Community education classes

After-school athletics and activities will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, with notifications provided by the activities department or specific coaches and advisors.
