National African American Parent Involvement Day 2026

National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) is celebrated each year during Black History Month on the second Monday in February. On Monday, February 9, 2026, South St. Paul Public Schools proudly welcomed students, families, and community members into our schools to celebrate NAAPID and honor the important role African American parents and caregivers play in student success. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this meaningful day of connection and learning and for all families for making a positive impact on their student's school experience.

At Kaposia, students and families gathered for breakfast and spent time reading books that celebrate Black history and culture, creating a welcoming space to learn and reflect together. It also featured a special performance from students who are learning guitar in the afterschool program Minds in Motion.

At Lincoln, families and students also enjoyed breakfast and shared in reading activities before attending a career panel featuring African American parents. Panelists shared their professional journeys and personal experiences, offering inspiration and insight to students.

The Secondary celebration began with breakfast and a short presentation from the South St. Paul Black Pride Organization (BPO), followed by a performance from the High School Choir singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The energy continued with a performance by the Step with Soul dance group, who invited audience members to the stage to learn basic stepping moves. The morning concluded with a presentation and discussion led by author and philanthropist Karen Davis.

NAAPID is a time to celebrate family engagement, culture, and community, and we are grateful to all who helped make this day memorable across our schools.
