Kaposia Kindergartens Visit City Hall

On National Superhero Day, Kaposia kindergarteners set out on a special adventure to meet some real-life heroes in our community. Students from all four classes visited City Hall, where they learned firsthand how different local departments work together to keep our city safe and running.

While at City Hall the classes visited the South St. Paul Police Department, South Metro Fire, South St. Paul Public Works, and the Dakota County Historical Society at Lawshe Museum.

At the SSP Police Department, students discovered how officers help protect the community and keep everyone safe. The highlight was getting an up-close look at a real police car.

At the Fire Station, South Metro Firefighters shared how they live at the station in shifts so they’re always ready to respond to emergencies, giving students a glimpse into the teamwork and dedication behind their work.

Across the street from City Hall, students learned from SSP Public Works about the important jobs that keep the city running smoothly. Students had the chance to climb inside a salt and plow truck to see the equipment up close.

At the Lawshe Museum and the Dakota County Historical Society, students learned about Lockheed Martin, aerospace engineering, and the company’s connections to Dakota County.

By the end of the day, students left with a new appreciation for the everyday heroes who make a difference in their community and a few ideas about who they might want to be when they grow up.
