Finding Nemo on Stage at Kaposia

Students at Kaposia Education Center are building a new tradition in the performing arts through the school’s participation in the Disney Musicals in Schools program. Bringing our mission to engage, educate, and empower to life through the arts.

Third- through fifth-grade students were invited to participate, and every student who showed interest was included in the production. Organizers used a short audition process and theater games to evaluate students’ singing, dancing and acting abilities in order to find the best role for each child. In total, 51 students joined the cast. Through rehearsals held twice a week beginning in January, students built confidence, discovered new talents, formed friendships and gained skills in singing, acting and dancing.

Staff said it has been especially rewarding to watch students find a place where they can truly shine and express themselves creatively. Despite limited resources and no formal budget, staff, volunteers and community supporters worked together to make the production possible. Thank you to the Cari Vujovich Endowment and Deb Clark Theater Fund through the SSP Educational Foundation for financial support. School leaders say the experience has shown students that opportunities to grow and succeed extend beyond academics and athletics, giving them another way to engage with their school community, learn new skills and feel empowered through teamwork and performance.
