CLC Students Engage in “Build a Better Snack” Challenge
The Community Learning Center launched the first X-Term of the school year, a weeklong, hands-on learning experience designed to engage students in creative, real-world problem-solving. This year, students are diving into a unique project called “Build a Better Snack,” a curriculum that explores food production, nutrition, and product design.
Throughout the week, students will learn about the science and process behind the snacks we eat, examining both how they’re made and what makes them healthy. They'll learn about the food distribution process, sustainability, and businesses practices. Working in teams, they’ll take their learning a step further by developing their own original snack and designing a packaging prototype to showcase their creation.

Kickoff Event: Taste Testing
The X-Term experience kicked off with a taste-testing grounding activity. Students participated in a blind taste test and explore the themes that will guide their work for the week. They took turns trying the different snacks and had to answer the questions: What is it? How do you think it was made? Is it healthy?
Closing Event: Gallery Walk
To celebrate the hard work and creativity of our students, the CLC will host a Gallery Walk on Friday, November 21 from 10:30–11:30 a.m. in the cafeteria. Community members are invited to stop by, meet the student creators, and view their snack concepts and packaging prototypes on display.
We’re proud of the innovative learning taking place at the Community Learning Center and hope you’ll join us in supporting our students as they take on this fun and meaningful challenge.
