Youth Frontiers Kindness Retreat

kids at retreat

Kaposia 5th graders participated in a Kindness Retreat through the nonprofit organization Youth Frontiers. At the retreat students worked on creating a more positive school community. They did this by participating in activities that build empathy skills and teach safe ways to help prevent unkind actions. The activities empower them to be "everyday heroes" by using kindness to include others, to be respectful, and to make the school a better place.

The learning objectives for the retreat were:

  1. Understand why and how to make kind choices
  2. Enhance empathy skills to understand how words and actions affect others
  3. Develop conflict-resolution strategies that can be used in response to unkind actions

The Kaposia 5th graders were joined by High School student volunteers in the Comunidad de Latinos Unidos and Black Pride Organization Affinity Groups. Together they are working to build a more inclusive, positive school environment. The retreat was made possible by the Larry Gru Program Fund at the SSP Educational Foundation. Youth Frontiers (YF) is a nonprofit organization that provides schools with experiences that inspire character, civility and community so that our next generation of leaders is grounded in character.
