TriDistrict CAPS Students Pack Naloxone Kits for Local Business

students packing naloxone

Students from the TriDistrict CAPS Healthcare and Business and Entrepreneurship classes volunteered to help Amethyst Recovery Solutions pack Naloxone kits. Amethyst is a new nationwide entrepreneurial group focused on supporting those in recovery from chemical dependence. They recently moved into Evolve Workplace, where TriDistrict CAPS Business and Entrepreneurship students take classes. TriDistrict CAPS partnered with Amethyst to give Business students a chance to learn how Amethyst was created and give Healthcare students an opportunity to increase access to a lifesaving resource.

At the packing event, students packed everything needed to administer Naloxone, which can effectively reverse an opioid overdose with minimal adverse effects. Students packed 1,000 kits for Amethyst Recovery Solutions. The packing event comes one year after the Dakota County Public Health Department recognized Healthcare students for their work to prepare more people with lifesaving skills. The group earned a 2023 Public Health Achievement Award honorable mention for getting TriDistrict CAPS students trained in CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, and the administration of Narcan.

The TriDistrict Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) program is a collaboration between South St. Paul Public Schools, Inver Grove Heights Schools, and West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan Area Schools. The program prepares students for career success with professional skills, such as interviewing and resume building, as well as hands-on opportunities to gain career experience, such as internships.

South St. Paul, Simley, and Two Rivers High School juniors and seniors who are interested in enrolling in a TriDistrict CAPS course can talk to their counselor. The program currently offers classes in Business and Entrepreneurship, Healthcare, Information Technology/Computer Science, and Transportation and Skilled Trades.
