Using Candy to Demonstrate Learning
High school psychology students engaged in a creative project to deepen their understanding of neurons by constructing models out of candy. Using a variety of sweets to represent different parts of the neuron, they use licorice, gummy worms, nerds, and other sweets to craft axons, dendrites, and other parts of a cell. Each component was carefully labeled, with detailed explanations of their functions to demonstrate their understanding. This hands-on activity provided a fun, tangible way for students to explore the complexities of neural communication and the structure of the nervous system.
