Student/Family Support
SCHOOL COUNSELORS
The role of the school counselor is to help every student thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. In partnership with students, staff, family, and other members of the community, the school counselor strives to prepare students to become effective learners, achieve success in school, live successful and rewarding lives, and develop into contributing members of our society. The goal is that each and every student builds the skills they need to be successful in the classroom and beyond.
The role of school counselors has grown over the years, especially post-pandemic when student support needs have risen dramatically. School counselors at all levels, no longer only provide one-on-one support to students in need. They also host group counseling sessions and teach classroom social-emotional lessons to large groups of students. Elementary, Middle, and High School all have different counseling needs and each has their own school counseling program structure.

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS
School psychologists
SSPPS Licensed School Psychologists work as the lead of the multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) model at each school. They ensure assessment practices are applied across all levels of the system for a deeper understanding of each student’s needs for academic and social-emotional success. They work closely with staff, students, and families to conduct special education evaluation and support teachers in addressing needs of students who may have a disability.
