Celebrating the Class of 2020
We know how much students in the Class of 2020 have sacrificed this year, and how disappointing it is to not participate in the traditional milestones and ceremonies. We grieve these losses with you and want you to know that we care deeply about how this pandemic has impacted your final months with us at SSP.
While we were hoping and planning for a traditional graduation ceremony, either on Ettinger Field or at Woog Arena as a weather backup, MDE's Graduation Guidance does not permit either. We recognize that the guidelines were made with the safety and well-being of Minnesota’s students, families and staff as the number one priority and have decided to hold virtual graduation ceremonies for SSP and CLC. The SSP community has also helped us identify several other ways to help celebrate the Class of 2020. While we know these efforts cannot take the place of a traditional ceremony and being able to celebrate in person, we hope to make the seniors feel valued, celebrated and an honored piece of our South St. Paul community. Congratulations, Class of 2020!
CLC: Tuesday, June 2, 6 p.m. I SSP: Thursday, June 4, 7 p.m.
The virtual graduation will premiere on South St. Paul Public School’s YouTube channel and will have many of the same elements as a traditional graduation, like speeches from the senior speakers and principal, presentation of diplomas with each student's name being read and the tassel ceremony. We hope you and your family will join us virtually and we’re encouraging all graduates to wear their caps and gowns while viewing the graduation ceremony with their households. Principal Ochocki and Assistant Principal O’Reilly will take the seniors through the traditional Tassel Ceremony, so graduates can move their tassels together as a class at the end of the ceremony.
Graduation Car Parade
Thursday, June 4, 5-7 p.m., line-up at 4:30 p.m.
A car parade celebration organized by senior parents will be held before the virtual graduation ceremony. Visit ssp2020seniors.org for details on how you can participate. Seniors are encouraged to decorate their vehicle for the parade and have a driver so the senior can fully experience the parade, but neither are necessary. All questions should be directed to Ms. Kim Bauer at email@example.com.
Packer Pride “Turn the Town Maroon” Month
At the May 11 School Board meeting the SSP School Board approved the resolution for May to become a Packer Pride “Turn the Town Maroon” Month. The resolution encourages all citizens to help “Turn the Town Maroon” by displaying their Packer pride at their homes and businesses in support of our students, especially the graduating Class of 2020, and all those that help prepare them for their next steps.
Please join us in “Turning the Town Maroon” and share your photos and videos of your Packer pride with us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
