Interpretation & Translation

South St. Paul Public Schools is committed to ensuring all families have meaningful access to school information and communication in a language they understand. We value strong partnerships with families and strive to reduce language barriers so all students and caregivers can fully participate in their educational experience.

Language Access Support

The district provides interpretation and translation services to support communication between schools and families whose preferred language is not English.

Available supports include:

• Written translation of important district and school communications
• Interpretation services for conferences, meetings, special education meetings, and school events
• Access to in-person interpreters or telephone interpretation services
• Spanish-speaking liaison support for families needing additional assistance
• Translation features through the district communication platform based on a family’s preferred language.

Families may request interpretation or translation services at any time by contacting their child’s school or the district office.

Communication Platform Translation

The district communication platform includes automatic translation features that allow families to receive messages in their preferred language whenever possible. Families are encouraged to ensure their preferred language is updated with their child’s school to support accurate communication.

Use of Translation Tools

District staff may occasionally use digital translation tools, such as Google Translate, for informal or immediate communication needs when a certified interpreter or translator is not readily available.

Because automated translations may not always be fully accurate, staff will disclose when a communication has been translated using a digital translation tool.

For important communications related to academics, student services, discipline, health, safety, or legal rights, the district will make reasonable efforts to provide professional interpretation or translation services.
