Anyone who has been around someone who tested positive within the past 2 days, if you have recently traveled, if you have symptoms, or if you just want some peace of mind should get tested.

Some of the symptoms of COVID-19 include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea. People with COVID can have many symptoms, few symptoms, or no symptoms. Many people who report a positive COVID-19 test often think they are experiencing a cold or allergy symptoms – they have a runny nose or congestion in their face. With kids, we see a lot of sore throats, headaches, cold-like symptoms, or tummy trouble – that turns out to be COVID.

Go to school! Per MDH guidelines, SSPPS does not require close contacts to quarantine. If a student or staff member is feeling sick, we recommend that you stay home until your symptoms have improved. If a student tests negative and is feeling good enough to be in school, they should be in school.

Absolutely! There are a number of places to get a FREE COVID vaccine. Dakota County has a vaccine clinic every month – call 952-891-7999 to schedule an appointment or visit the Dakota County Health Website. CVS, Walgreens, Cub Pharmacy, Costco Pharmacy, Sam’s Club Pharmacy, and many independent drug stores all offer vaccines. See their website or talk with a pharmacist for details.

Vaccination is an important step to take to protect yourself against COVID-19, including variants like Omicron.  The CDC recommends that everyone 18+ should get a COVID-19 booster shot:

• If they received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine 2 months or more ago
• If they received the second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine 6 months or more ago

COVID-19 vaccines are effective, especially at preventing serious illness and death.  However, evidence is increasingly clear that boosters for all adults, given at the appropriate time after your primary vaccination series, can help extend the protection and keep it at a high level.

"Mixing and matching" of COVID-19 vaccine boosters is authorized, meaning Minnesotans eligible to get a booster dose can get any of the three authorized vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson) regardless of which brand vaccine they received for their initial series.
