Flexible Learning

South St Paul Schools will utilize Flexible Learning Days to provide continuity of learning in the event of inclement weather, emergency closings and other preplanned circumstances.

Emergency Flexible Learning Days

Emergency Flexible Learning Days will occur when the district or a specific school must close due to inclement weather or other emergency situation.  Similar to Scheduled Flexible Learning Days, students will learn from home through a variety of lessons posted below or communicated through the student’s school or teacher(s). Specific details regarding the expectations for the given Emergency Flexible Learning Day will be shared when the emergency closing is announced.

Scheduled Flexible Learning Days

Scheduled Flexible Learning Days are days the District has determined ahead of time as a result of a preplanned circumstance.  Similar to Emergency Flexible Learning Days, students will learn from home through a variety of lessons posted below or communicated through the student’s school or teacher(s).  Specific details regarding the expectations for the Scheduled Flexible Learning days listed below will be shared closer to the date.

  • November 7, 2022 (PreK through grade 8 only)
  • March 9, 2023 (PreK through grade 8 only)

At their meeting on Monday, June 27, 2022, the South St. Paul School Board approved a change to the 2022-23 school year calendar. The change, for preschool, elementary and middle school families only, shifts November 7, 2022, and March 9, 2023, from in-person learning days to flex learning days. By shifting these two days to flex learning for our prek-8 students, we can expand the student-family connection times to 12:00-8:00 pm, allowing some daytime options for families. There are no changes to the previously approved calendar for high school students and families.
