Native American Education

We provide the following FREE services for Native American students

• Culture and language enrichment groups during the school day for students in grades 1-12
• Post-secondary exploration 
• Field trips or other experiential learning
• Lending library for students and families featuring Indigenous Authors
• Family Cultural Events
• Social and academic support

Any student that identifies as Native American and is identified in Infinite Campus as North American Indian is eligible to participate.

In addition, many students qualify to complete a Federal 506 Form if they:

• are an enrolled member of a tribe
• have a parent who is an enrolled member of a tribe
• have a grandparent who is an enrolled member of a tribe

We encourage students who qualify to complete a Federal 506 Form. This allows the district to apply for additional Federal Title VI Funding. 

Completed 506 Forms can be submitted to our Native American Program staff or submitted at the time of enrollment in South St. Paul schools.

Our programming for Native American students is funded by a combination of State and Federal funds that are dedicated to the unique cultural and educational needs of our Native American students. The district applies for and receives funding from each source annually and receives funds based on the number of eligible enrolled students.

Our Native American Parent Advisory Council works with district staff in an advisory role to support programming for the district’s Native American students. Parents, grandparents, community members, and high school students are all encouraged to participate. 

The NAPAC is an essential part of our Native American programming, serving as a key link between families and the school, ensuring we are providing programming that best meets the needs of our students.

• Indian Health Board - Community health clinic providing medical, dental, and mental health care, including recovery services and wellness education
• MN Indian Women's Resource Center - Provides a range of programs designed to education and empower Native women and their families
• American Indian Family Center - Youth and family services, including youth programs, chemical health and mental health services, and employment services for MFIP clients
