On May 21, South St. Paul residents will vote on a bond proposal to fund a four-point Facilities Master Plan to ensure the school district is providing an effective learning environment to meet students’ educational needs:
Site Improvements and Facility Maintenance
- Update roofing, heating, and ventilation by replacing or improving aging infrastructure at our schools
- Repurpose outdated and underutilized Industrial Arts classrooms for the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Learning Program
- Improve secondary media center and learning commons to accommodate digital learning and better serve the community
- Expand Packer Activity Center, renew running track surface, and increase storage capacity for activities
Relieve Overcrowding in Our Elementary School to Enhance Programming- Build additions at Lincoln and Kaposia to provide added capacity for early learning and kindergarten programming
- Create additional elementary school capacity by building a new 6th grade addition at the secondary building
- Provide 6th grade students with enhanced academic opportunities in a middle school setting through specific subject area instruction Align all of our facilities to best serve 21st century learners
Address District-wide Safety and Security Needs- Improve safety and supervision at all buildings by the addition of cameras, supporting infrastructure and facility modifications
- Upgrade communications and wireless infrastructure
Reduce Our Rental Costs- Relocate out of the Family Connections site and eliminate lease payments
- Eliminate annual lease cost by purchasing District office
Building-Specific Improvements
Lincoln Center Elementary
- New three-classroom addition to support increased school enrollment
- Remodel entrance to improve security, install security technology, and separate student and bus drop-off areas
- Repair or replace aging roofs, carpets, tuck-pointing, electrical, windows, building exterior, and lighting
- Increase internet speed, upgrade wireless infrastructure and school-wide communications systems to enhance student learning capabilities
- Resurface outdoor running track
Kaposia Education Center
- New two-story addition of six classrooms for early childhood and kindergarten
- Remodel entrance to improve security, install security technology, and separate student and bus drop-off areas
- Repair or replace aging roofs, carpets, tuck-pointing, electrical, windows, building exterior, and lighting
- Increase internet speed, upgrade wireless infrastructure and school-wide communications systems to enhance student learning capabilities
Secondary Building
- Repurpose outdated and underutilized Industrial Arts classrooms for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Learning Program
- Renovate media center and learning commons to accommodate 21st century digital learning and better serve the community
- Construct a new 6th grade addition in the current Heritage Hall/old gymnasium space, including multi-purpose classrooms, lockers, and support spaces
- Expand cafeteria capacity
- Expand Packer Activity Center and increase storage capacity for activities
- Enhance theater storage and workshop area
- Remodel entrance to improve security, install security technology, and separate student and bus drop-off areas
- Repair or replace aging roofs, carpets, tuck-pointing, electrical, windows, building exterior, and lighting
- Increase internet speed, upgrade wireless infrastructure and school-wide communications systems to enhance student learning capabilities
