- Candidates interested in becoming a substitute teacher in South St. Paul Schools must hold a Minnesota teaching license issued by the Minnesota Department of Education or a short-call substitute license.
- The substitute teacher pay rate is $135 for a full day or $75 for a half day (up to 4 hours)
- Substitute teaching opportunities are available at all grade levels and subjects in our two elementary schools (grades K-5), secondary building (grades 6-12), ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) and ABE (Adult Basic Education).
- Substitute School Nurse opportunities are also available - requires Licensed School Nurse (LSN) or Registered Nurse (RN) certification, rate of pay is $25/hour, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) rate of pay is $20/hour
We have a variety of substituting opportunities available in our district with various hours.
Preschool Instructors - follow lesson plans and activities prepared with preschool students. Full and half day assignments are possible, rate of pay is $18/hour.
Special Education Assistant - monitor, support and guide students in grades K-12 under the guidance of the teacher. Typically 6.5 hours per day, rate of pay is $14/hour.
One on One Assistant - monitor, support and guide an assigned student in grade K-12 grade under the guidance of the teacher. Typically 6.5 hours per day, rate of pay is $14/hour.
Early Learning Assistant - support and interact with our youngest learners (birth to preschool) under the guidance of the teacher. Hours vary, rate of pay is $13/hour.
Kids' Choice Assistant (before/after school care) - support and interact with students in grades K-5. Hours vary before and after school, rate of pay is $13/hour.
Health Assistant - assist with caring for students and completing clerical tasks as assigned by the School Nurse. Additional training is required. School day hours, rate of pay is $14/hour.
Clerical - perform varies clerical duties in the school office or a department as assigned by principal or department leader. School day hours, rate of pay is $14/hour.
Lunchroom/Breakfast/Gym Supervisor - supervise and monitor large groups of grade K-5 students. Generally, less than 3.5 hours day, rate of pay is $13/hour.
Crossing Guard/Parking Lot - ensure elementary students are safely crossing street and entering/existing building. Generally, less than 1.5 hours per day, rate of pay is $13/hour.
Food Service Assistant - assist with washing, serving and other food prep related tasks in the school cafeteria. Hour are usually less than 4 hours/day, rate of pay is $13/hour.
