How to Enroll

  • Classes at SSABE offers two-month terms from September through April and a summer term offered from May to July. New students are allowed to enroll at the beginning of each new term. Students are required to attend the orientation/assessment sessions prior to registering for classes.


    Steps to Enroll

    1. Contact the ABE office

    2. Prepare for the Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) 
      The TABE has three major areas: Reading, Language and Math (applied and computation). The tests are set up in a multiple choice format. Click here to download the TABE booklet. This booklet contains information about the South Suburban Adult Basic Education program and has sample tests in reading, language, and math similar to what you will be seeing when you are tested using the TABE.

    3. Attend orientation and complete assessments
      Orientation is a two to three-hour long introduction to the ABE program, policies and expectations. Students will have the opportunity to set goals, discuss challenges to accomplishing goals, and ask questions about ABE. Assessments are used initially to gauge students' education levels and are used throughout the program duration to measure students' progress toward their goals. In addition, assessments are used to keep SSABE accountable, ensuring that students are being offered the best possible educational opportunities.

    4. Attend the first day of class
      Students are required to attend the first class period of each new class session. Students who are unable to attend the first class period must notify the ABE office immediately at (651) 306-3632, or they will be dropped from the class.
