MTSS in SSP

  • MTSS is a school reform model that involves new ways of thinking and doing business.  South Saint Paul's MTSS framework will include:

    • High quality instruction along with preventative interventions
    • Assessment practices that are applied across all levels of the system for a deeper understanding of each student's needs
    • The alignment of resources and supports necessary for each student's academic and social-emotional success

    Umbrella

MTSS in SSPPS consists of six distinct components: Comprehensive Assessment; Data-Based Problem Solving & Decision Making; Evidence Based Curriculum & Instruction (Universal); Evidence-Based Instructional Intervention (Targeted & Intensive); Infrastructure & Support Mechanisms; and Family, School, & Community Partnering.

    History

During the 2016-2017 school year, South Saint Paul Public Schools made the decision to adopt MTSS and implement the framework across the district. With this decision, the district assembled a team of district staff that collaborated in determining how to effectively implement this framework.  The team has specifically worked toward the development of an Innovations Configuration (IC) Map, detailing the aforementioned components and dimensions of MTSS as well as what those dimensions look like at various stages of implementation. This map is intended to serve as a guide for the district to consistently assess its current level of implementation, identify priorities for moving forward, and determining effective resources and practices in pursuing new or updated innovations.
